Many of you may already know, a great way to improve your rankings on Google is to get links from other websites.
These links (“backlinks”) act as “endorsements” to search engines, which basically indicate that your website has good, relevant content on it and deserves to soar up the ranks 😉
But, which websites do you need links from?
We are rapidly approaching 2 billion websites on the Internet (useless diagram of this here 🙂 which means there is a plethora of choice when it comes to where to get a link from.
And I guarantee that most websites are completely useless to you.
I am going to over-simplify this a little but there are basically two types of links:
- Niche (Industry) relevant; and
- Location relevant
Niche relevant = These are from websites which are relevant to your industry and they signal to Google that your website is also relevant to the same industry.
Location relevant = These are from websites which are relevant to the location you serve and they signal to Google that your website is also relevant to this location.
It is this second type of link that can be hard to source for your website.
How To Get Location Relevant Links?
One way to get location relevant links at no cost is to leave comments on articles or blog posts which are relevant to your site.
The trick, is quickly finding these on Google.
Step 1
Head to google.com.au and type into the search bar:
inurl:{yourlocation} “leave a reply”
Except substitute {yourlocation} for the location you are trying to rank in.
The above is an example of doing this for Brisbane.
Step 2
If there are way too many old results, you can filter for results from the past month. See the following screenshot for how to do this.
Step 3
Scroll down to the bottom of the article and leave a comment. Be sure to add your website into the field when prompted.
Done. That’s it, now you have a Location relevant link back to your website.
Now don’t abuse this tactic, like most good things in life you don’t want to do it in excess. A handful of these comments should be all that you need.
This is obviously one part of a larger puzzle of getting your website ranked on Google and your phone ringing.
